Bezel Building and Cabochon Setting Workshop- March 12 from 10-3 pm
Are you ready to learn to build your own bezels? Bezel settings are easy to make and extremely versatile, perfect for capturing cabochon stones and found objects. In this workshop students will choose from a variety of provided cabochons and learn how to build a proper fitting bezel frame and solder it to a base plate and set the stone. Students will also learn how to saw a shape from metal sheet using a hand held jewelers saw, how to texture metal using hammers, and how to use patina to emphasize details and textures. I will have a selection of low quality practice stones you may use, or you are welcome to bring your own stone. If this is your first time making a bezel, round or oval stones at least 12 mm in size are recommended.
Class is limited to 3 students. This is a 5 hour class with a 30 min lunch break around 12:00.
Materials and tools will be provided. Each student will leave with their very own one of a kind of pendant and the skills to continue fabricating bezels on their own. Open to ages 16+. Prior experience is helpful but not necessary.
Classes are taught in the Metamorphosis Metals studio in downtown Raleigh, NC
