Flush Setting Workshop- April 16 from 10-3 pm
Flush setting is a great technique to learn if you want to add faceted gemstones to your work. Its easy to learn and with some practice you will find it one of the quickest setting methods for small stones. In this workshop students will learn the process of flush setting as well as how to create burnishers and pushers from broken burs, brass rods, and wooden dowels that you probably already have lying around your studio.
The first half of the class will be spent making a practice plate, focusing on cutting seats and the correct way to hold the burnisher for maximum control. The second half we will discuss making tools, and begin making a pierced plate incorporating flush set stones that you can later turn into a pendant or other component if desired.
Class is limited to 3 students. All necessary materials and tools will be provided but it is recommended that you bring your own Optivisor or other magnification in the correct strength especially if you have any difficulty seeing close up objects clearly.
Class will run from 10-3 with a 30 min break around 12. Open to ages 16+. Prior metalwork experience is recommended. Classes are taught in the Metamorphosis Metals studio in downtown Raleigh, NC
