Simple Prong and Tab Settings April 9 from 10- 3pm
These simple prong and tab settings are easy to build and customize which makes them perfect for capturing free form cabochons and irregularly shaped found objects. In this workshop students learn to construct several types of settings to hold stones and other objects. Students will also learn how to saw a shape from metal sheet using a hand held jewelers saw, how to texture metal using hammers, and how to use patina to emphasize details and textures. Please bring a selection of 3-5 objects to choose from, (shells, cabochons, coins, river rocks, sea glass, etc are all perfect for this project). Actual number of settings finished in the class will depend on each students skill and speed.
Class is limited to 3 students. We will take a 30 min lunch break around 1:00.
Copper wire & sheet as well as all necessary tools will be provided. If you prefer to work in silver, you are welcome to bring your own sheet and wire to work with. Each student will leave with at least one finished pendant or ring. Open to ages 16+. Prior experience is helpful but not necessary.
Classes are taught in the Metamorphosis Metals studio in downtown Raleigh, NC
